Moving Talent: Violist Sunniva Skaug Follows Dvořák to America

With the Dutch Jazz Heritage series, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw puts the spotlight on legendary (Dutch) jazz moments and jazz artists, in collaboration with the Dutch Jazz Archive. During this concert, the orchestra delves into the work of baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan. On 5 November 1960, Mulligan took to the stage of The Concertgebouw for the third time, this time not with a small ensemble as on his previous two visits, but with his thirteen-piece Concert Jazz Band. The concert was a triumph, and from then on the band was mentioned in the same breath as legendary orchestras such as Count Basie and Duke Ellington. The Jazz Orchestra has invited the leading baritone saxophonist Jan Menu to follow in Mulligan’s footsteps at The Concertgebouw this evening.
